The Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor Overview
The entry-level Polestar 3 is now available in its most affordable configuration, the rear-wheel drive Long Range Single Motor, starting at $68,900. This version of the electric SUV offers a maximum driving range of 350 miles on a full charge, thanks to its 111-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Manufactured in South Carolina alongside the Long Range Dual Motor model, the Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor features a maximum DC charging rate of 250 kW.
Performance and Features
The Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor delivers 299 hp, allowing for a zero-to-60 miles-per-hour sprint in 7.5 seconds and a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds. It comes equipped with the Pilot pack as standard, offering advanced driving assistance systems and a 360-degree camera system. Optional features include a Bowers & Wilkins audio system, active noise cancellation, and heated elements throughout the vehicle.
Comparison with Polestar 2
Compared to the best-selling Polestar 2, the Polestar 3 is priced slightly higher due to import tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. However, the Polestar 3 offers a larger size and greater range, with the Long Range Single Motor version providing 350 miles of driving range compared to the 2’s 254 miles. While neither model is eligible for the federal tax credit, leasing could potentially allow for the tax credit to be applied.
Production and Deliveries
The Polestar 3 is based on the same platform as the Volvo EX90 electric SUV and is larger than both the Polestar 2 and the upcoming Polestar 4. Production of the Long Range Single Motor version is set to begin in South Carolina soon, with deliveries in the United States expected to start in the first quarter of 2025. The addition of this new configuration is significant for Polestar, offering customers increased confidence in choosing the brand.
Future Outlook
Anders Gustafsson, Head of Polestar North America, expressed pride in offering customers a new entry-level price point and additional charging options with the Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor. The availability of up to 350 miles of electric range in a larger, more affordable package positions the Polestar 3 as a compelling option for electric vehicle buyers. With production ramping up in South Carolina, the brand is looking forward to delivering the new Polestar 3 variant to customers in early 2025.
