The Volvo EX30 electric vehicle has started arriving at U.S. dealerships, initially only in the top Twin Motor Performance version. However, other versions, including the more rugged EX30 Cross Country, have been announced. The Cross Country model features increased ground clearance, skid plates, and 18-inch wheels that can be fitted with all-terrain tires. Optional accessories such as a load carrier, roof basket, and mud flaps are available within Cross Country Experience packages. The design of the Cross Country remains largely unchanged from the concept vehicle that was unveiled alongside the production version of the standard EX30 in 2023.
The EX30 Cross Country will come standard with dual-motor all-wheel drive, although Volvo has not confirmed whether it will offer the same power output as the current Twin Motor Performance model. The vehicle is expected to use the same 69-kwh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack as other U.S.-market EX30 models, with EPA range figures to be revealed at a later date. Dual-motor versions of the EX30 are currently rated at 253 miles of range by the EPA, and can fast charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes. This charging time is expected to apply to the Cross Country model as well.
Volvo’s original plan was to introduce the EX30 to the U.S. market last summer, but the launch was delayed due to new tariffs on EVs made in China. This led to the automaker sourcing the first vehicles from China before transitioning production to Belgium. The China-made EX30 finally made its way to U.S. dealerships in January in its top dual-motor form, starting at $46,195. Volvo has assured customers that a single-motor version of the EX30 is still in the pipeline, with a lower base price of $36,245. Both the single-motor EX30 and the Cross Country model are expected to be released before the end of the 2025 calendar year, likely as 2026 models.
The front and rear of the EX30 Cross Country feature blacked-out panels, along with wheel-arch extensions for a more rugged appearance. The front fascia includes a topographical representation of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Sweden, serving as inspiration for the Volvo designers. The Cross Country model is also equipped with 18-inch wheels that can be fitted with all-terrain tires for off-road capability. Optional accessories such as a load carrier, roof basket, and mud flaps are available in Cross Country Experience packages for added customization.
