The Lexus RZ electric crossover has received a significant update for the European market, offering more range, power, quicker charging, a new steer-by-wire system, and an F Sport grade. Toyota is expanding its EV offerings in Europe with three more EVs set to launch by the end of 2026. The new RZ F Sport highlights Lexus’s commitment to premium vehicles in the electrification era.
The range-topping Lexus RZ 550e F Sport features dual-motor all-wheel drive with 402 hp from two 165-kw motors. The enhanced acceleration is achieved through greater efficiency in the front inverter and less parasitic losses. The rear motor can deliver all the torque at launch or in certain situations based on speed and steering angles, providing a dynamic driving experience. The interior has also been enhanced with a steer-by-wire system for quicker communication and less vibrations through the steering yoke.
The steer-by-wire system in the Lexus RZ allows for quicker communication with the road and helps keep up with instantaneous torque distribution. The F Sport model also features an ‘Interactive Manual Drive’ that simulates shifts as in an 8-speed automatic transmission. A larger battery pack is now standard across all models, providing more power output and improved performance. The upcoming Lexus RZ models also benefit from a new 22-kw AC onboard charger for quicker Level 2 charging.
Improvements to the battery and motor systems have increased the range of the Lexus RZ by up to 60 miles. The RZ lineup includes the RZ 350e with front-wheel drive, the RZ 500e with all-wheel drive, and the performance-oriented RZ 550e F Sport. All-wheel-drive versions can now tow twice as much as before at 3,300 pounds. The addition of a rear brace, suspension adjustments, and additional soundproofing throughout the crossover enhance stability, ride comfort, and reduce noise.
The updated Lexus RZ is set to launch in Europe this fall, with a North America rollout expected to follow. It is uncertain whether features such as steer-by-wire or the F Sport grade will be available in the U.S. market. Toyota’s commitment to electrification in Europe reflects the brand’s determination to achieve carbon neutrality in the region by 2035. The expansion of EV offerings showcases the potential for luxury electric vehicles under both Toyota and Lexus brands in the European market.
