A recent data analysis has revealed that Tesla’s 10-year maintenance and repair costs are the most affordable in the automotive industry. The analysis, conducted by Consumer Reports, found that over a decade, the average cost of maintaining and repairing a Tesla was just $4,035. This is significantly lower than other automakers such as Land Rover and Porsche, which had costs of $19,250 and $14,090, respectively. Four out of five of the least expensive brands to maintain were U.S. companies, including Tesla, Buick, Lincoln, and Ford.
The analysis also found that Tesla’s maintenance costs were lower than other luxury vehicle brands, highlighting the cost savings potential of owning a Tesla. In addition to Tesla, Buick, Toyota, and Lincoln were also among the top brands with the lowest maintenance and repair costs. The analysis looked at repair and maintenance costs over one to five-year and six to 10-year periods. The report emphasized that niche luxury gas vehicle brands tend to have higher costs, while electric vehicle maker Tesla consistently ranked lower in terms of maintenance expenses.
According to Steven Elek, Program Leader for Auto Data Analytics at Consumer Reports, the difference in maintenance costs between brands can be significant over a 10-year period. He also suggested that luxury vehicle buyers may benefit from choosing a domestic brand with lower maintenance and repair costs. For example, Mercedes-Benz models were found to be more than double the cost to maintain and repair compared to Lincoln models over a 10-year period. The analysis was based on data collected from members in the 2023 Annual Auto Surveys, who reported the amount they paid for maintenance and repairs.
Consumer Reports provided rankings for the most and least expensive vehicles to repair and maintain, with Tesla topping the list for the most affordable maintenance costs in the industry. The report’s findings underscore the cost savings potential of owning a Tesla compared to other luxury vehicle brands, particularly in terms of long-term maintenance expenses. As electric vehicles continue to gain popularity in the automotive market, the data analysis highlights Tesla’s competitive advantage in terms of affordability and reliability. Consumers looking to save on maintenance and repair costs may find Tesla to be a cost-effective option compared to other luxury automakers.
