The Emily GT was initially developed under NEVS, which acquired the remains of Saab after the Swedish automaker went bankrupt in 2011. NEVS had plans for four EVs based on the Phoenix platform, which was to be used for the next-generation Saab 9-3, as well as an electric version of the old 9-3 and 9-3X. The Emily GT, similar in size to the Tesla Model S or Lucid Air, was created as a demonstrator for Protean in-wheel motors rather than a production model.
