Ford has reported record-breaking electric vehicle sales in the fourth quarter of 2024, with a total of 30,176 EV deliveries. The company nearly reached 100,000 pure EV sales for the year, closing at 97,865 on December 31st. The Ford Mustang Mach-E had its best quarter ever in the 4th quarter, with 16,119 units delivered. Despite being outsold by the Tesla Model Y, the Mustang Mach-E outsold every other electric SUV in the country. All of Ford’s full electric models had record years, with the Mustang Mach-E reaching 51,745 sales, F-150 Lightning with 33,510 sales, and E-Transit with 12,610 sales.
Ford also saw growth in “electrified” vehicle sales, which include hybrids and plug-in hybrids in addition to electric vehicles. Total electrified vehicle sales for Ford reached 285,291 for the year, a 38% increase from the previous year. This outsold GM and Stellantis’ electrified vehicles for the full year. Hybrid sales for Ford reached 187,426 on top of the 97,865 EV sales. Ford noted its position as the #2 EV brand in the United States, although confirmation awaited until the 4th quarter numbers were in. However, Ford’s EV sales still lag behind its non-EV sales, with only 6.0% of Ford’s sales being EV sales in the 4th quarter.
Despite the strong performance in EV sales, Ford still has a long way to go to become an EV giant. EV sales represented only 5.7% of the company’s overall sales when considering both Ford and Lincoln brands. Although this was an improvement from the previous quarter, it falls short of being considered commendable. For the year as a whole, EV sales accounted for 5.0% of sales for Ford and 4.7% for the entire company. While Ford has made progress in increasing its EV sales, there is still room for growth to compete with other major players in the market.
