Ford’s Strong Start to 2024 with EV Sales
Ford Motor Company reported 179,588 new vehicle sales in April, with a noticeable increase in electric vehicle (EV) sales. Almost one in 20 new Ford vehicles were all-electric last month, with 8,019 EVs sold – a 129% increase from the previous year. This improvement in EV sales gives hope for a strong second quarter as Ford’s EV share out of the total volume increased to 4.7%, compared to 2.0% a year ago.
Ford’s Dominance in the U.S. EV Segment
Ford was the No.2 brand in the U.S. EV segment after Tesla in the first quarter of 2024, nearly doubling its EV sales year-over-year to over 28,000 after the first four months of the year. All three Ford EV models contributed to this growth, with the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit showing significant increases compared to the previous year.
Ford’s EV Sales Performance
So far in 2024, Ford has sold more than 28,000 all-electric vehicles in the U.S., representing almost a 100% increase from the previous year. The brand’s EV sales account for about 4.3% of its total volume. With strong performances from models like the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit, Ford is poised for continued success in the EV market.
Ford F-150 Lightning Performance
Ford sold 2,090 F-150 Lightnings in April, a 57% increase year over year. Despite a slow start in 2023, Ford expects significant growth in sales of the electric truck in 2024, especially with the introduction of the 2024 model year and new pricing options. The company remains optimistic about the F-150 Lightning’s performance and anticipates continued growth throughout the year.
Ford Mustang Mach-E Sales
Ford’s Mustang Mach-E sales saw a significant increase of 205% year-over-year, with 4,893 units sold in April. Total sales for the first four months stood at 14,482, representing a 107% increase from the previous year. Production of the Mustang Mach-E in Mexico saw a slight decrease in April, likely due to greater supply than demand in the market.
Ford E-Transit Performance
Sales of the Ford E-Transit van also saw growth, with 1,036 units sold in April – an 86% increase from the previous year. The electric van continues to perform well in the market and is positioned as “America’s best-selling electric van” by Ford. While Ford’s plug-in models like the Escape PHEV and Lincoln’s PHEV sales were not disclosed, the company’s overall performance in the EV market remains strong.
