The Hyundai Casper Electric, the company’s most affordable EV in Korea, has now become even more budget-friendly with the introduction of a new Premium trim starting at $20,000 (27.4 million won). With government subsidies, the price of the new model could drop as low as $7,300 (10 million won). The compact electric SUV has been a popular choice in the Korean market, with 8,000 orders secured in the first two weeks of pre-orders. In August, the Casper Electric outsold other Hyundai EV models, including the IONIQ 5 and Kona Electric, making it the top-selling EV for the company in Korea.
In September, the Casper Electric continued its success by becoming the best-selling EV in Korea, with 2,075 models sold. The electric SUV’s appeal lies in its ample driving range and low price point. The Casper Electric is powered by a 42 kWh NCM battery and offers up to 173 miles (278 km) of driving range in Korea. With various trim options, the vehicle can provide a maximum driving range of 196 miles (315 km). In Europe, the Casper Electric, known as the Inster EV, offers up to 221 miles (355 km) of driving range and starts at under $27,000 (25,000 euros).
While the Casper Electric is not expected to be released in the US, Hyundai’s new facility in Georgia, Metaplant America, is now operational. The first vehicle to be produced at the facility was the updated 2025 IONIQ 5, which features more range and an NACS charging port to access Tesla’s Supercharger network. Later this year, Hyundai will introduce the IONIQ 9, its first electric three-row SUV, which will also be manufactured in Georgia. EVs built at the facility will qualify for tax credits of up to $7,500 once the battery portion of the plant is operational.
Hyundai is currently offering incentives for the 2024 IONIQ 5 in the US, including a $7,500 tax credit for leasing and 0% APR financing for up to 60 months. The 2024 IONIQ 5 starts at $41,800 and offers over 300 miles of range for the SE RWD model priced at $45,850. Despite the Casper Electric not coming to the US market, Hyundai’s commitment to expanding its EV lineup and manufacturing capabilities in Georgia are paving the way for more affordable and accessible electric vehicles for American consumers in the future.
