GMC announced that the limited-edition launch version of the 2024 Sierra EV pickup will arrive in summer 2024 with approximately 10% more EPA range than initially anticipated. The full-size electric truck, dubbed the “Denali of EVs,” will come with GMC’s luxury Denali badge and will feature a CrabWalk mode, a feature not found in the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST. The top GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will have a starting price of $99,495, which is lower than the previously estimated price of around $107,000. It will come equipped with large 24-inch wheels, rear-wheel steering for the CrabWalk mode, an air suspension system for adjustable ride height, and a 16.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The truck will also offer the Super Cruise highway driver-assistance system with coverage on 750,000 miles of U.S. and Canadian roadways.
The 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 will feature a dual-layer 205 kwh battery pack, similar to the GMC Hummer EV’s top trims. This setup will allow the Sierra EV to utilize 350-kw, 800-volt charging connectors, enabling a range increase of up to 100 miles in just 10 minutes. The truck is expected to deliver 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque in its Max Power mode, with a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. Towing capacity is estimated to be up to 9,500 pounds, and bidirectional charging capability will allow the truck to export up to 10.2 kw of AC power for various uses such as campsites or workplaces. The Sierra EV also features a flexible midgate setup similar to the Silverado EV, allowing for cargo items up to 11 feet in length to fit without protruding from the vehicle.
The Sierra EV was originally unveiled in December 2021 with a planned market debut in 2023. GMC has indicated that the Sierra EV may not be the high-volume electric truck that GM CEO Mary Barra mentioned in reference to the Silverado EV. This suggests that the GMC Sierra EV may not offer work-truck variants like its Silverado EV counterpart. However, GMC has confirmed that an off-road-focused AT4 model is in the works, as well as an entry-level Elevation trim priced around $50,000. With the Denali Edition 1’s lower price, it is possible that the base model of the Sierra EV will also be more affordable. The truck will feature a front trunk or “frunk” in EV terminology, offering additional storage space.
