Jaguar has unveiled the first glimpse of its upcoming lineup of electric vehicles, starting with a four-door grand tourer that features a camouflaged exterior. The EV is expected to have an exaggerated hood and a fastback-like profile with a liftgate at the rear. This model will be joined by two others in Jaguar’s planned lineup, including an SUV and a traditional sedan. The concept version of this electric vehicle was first announced by Jaguar last year and is set to debut at the 2024 Miami Art Week, with the production model scheduled for release in 2025 and deliveries starting the following year.
The upcoming Jaguar EV is expected to be priced at around £100,000 (approximately $127,000) and will offer more power than any previous Jaguar road car. The vehicle is aiming for a range of at least 430 miles on the European WLTP testing cycle, which could translate to over 300 miles of EPA range. All three new Jaguar EVs will come equipped with North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports for Tesla Supercharger access and will be built on a new platform called JEA (Jaguar Electrified Architecture), distinct from sibling brand Land Rover. Despite this, the Jaguar EVs will be manufactured alongside Land Rover models at the parent company JLR’s Solihull plant in the U.K.
Jaguar was among the first luxury brands to enter the EV market with the launch of the I-Pace crossover in 2018. However, the brand faced challenges in deciding its next steps, initially planning to introduce an all-electric flagship sedan in 2021 as a replacement for the gasoline XJ and continue evolving the I-Pace with a second generation. Ultimately, both models were abandoned in favor of a fresh start. In the interim, Jaguar will be discontinuing most of its current models, including the I-Pace, with only the gasoline F-Pace crossover remaining until the new EV lineup is released. Jaguar’s managing director Rawdon Glover has expressed frustration at this transition period, referring to it as “hugely frustrating.”
Overall, Jaguar’s upcoming electric vehicles will mark a significant shift for the brand as it transitions to a full electrified lineup. The introduction of the new EVs will showcase Jaguar’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the automotive industry. With the promise of high-performance, long-range electric vehicles at the forefront, Jaguar is poised to make a statement in the competitive EV market. Customers can expect a range of exciting features and cutting-edge technology in these new models, setting a new standard for luxury electric vehicles from Jaguar. As the automotive industry continues to embrace electrification, Jaguar’s foray into electric vehicles represents a bold step towards a more sustainable future.
