The Scout Terra electric truck is set to enter production in 2027 and is aimed at competing with the Rivian R1T and other electric pickups in the market. The Terra will be an off-road, adventure-ready electric truck that takes inspiration from Rivian’s design. While it is still years away from production, it is expected to offer similar features and capabilities to the Rivian R1T.
In terms of pricing, the Rivian R1T currently starts at $71,700 and can be optioned up to about $110,000, with upcoming quad-motor versions expected to cost around $120,000. The Scout Terra was originally expected to be priced higher than the Traveler SUV, which starts in the $40,000s, but now both are said to cost less than $60,000.
When it comes to range, the Rivian R1T currently offers between 270 and 420 miles of EPA-rated range. The Scout Terra is expected to have up to 350 miles of range, with an optional gas-powered range-extender that could provide up to 500 miles of driving range.
In terms of size and seating capacity, the Scout Terra is larger than the Rivian R1T and will have the ability to seat five or six passengers with two rows of seats. The Rivian R1T, on the other hand, seats five and measures shorter in length compared to the Scout Terra.
Both the Rivian R1T and Scout Terra offer advanced technology features, with the Rivian relying on a large touchscreen for controls and a digital gauge cluster, while the Scout Terra offers a combination of a touchscreen and hard switches and dials for climate control and auxiliary systems.
The Rivian R1T can be optioned with different battery pack sizes, while details on the Scout Terra’s battery pack sizes have not been released yet. Additionally, the Rivian R1T has a max charge rate of 220 kw, while the Terra is expected to have a peak charge rate of 350 kw. Both trucks offer power from multiple motors, with the Rivian R1T offering more options for power outputs compared to the Scout Terra.
Both the Scout Terra and Rivian R1T are expected to offer off-road capabilities, with the Rivian having features like power to all four wheels, high ground clearance, and the ability to ford deep water. The Scout Terra will also offer impressive ground clearance and off-road features like mechanical front lockers and a front sway bar disconnect. In terms of towing and payload capacity, both trucks are expected to offer competitive capabilities, with the Rivian R1T having a higher tow rating but the Scout Terra offering a larger bed size.
