The EX60 is anticipated to be sized between the compact EX30 and the three-row EX90 flagship and will likely utilize Volvo’s new platform, SPA3. This platform, announced last September, aims for greater scalability through the use of mega castings, which are large single castings that form parts of the body shell normally made up of smaller components. Volvo plans to implement mega casting manufacturing at its plant in Torslanda, Sweden, which produces the XC60.
The SPA3 platform is expected to share an electrical architecture and software-defined-vehicle approach with SPA2, which is currently being used for the EX90 and ES90 models.
