California-based Telo Trucks has confirmed a lower base price for its MT1 electric pickup truck. Initially set to launch in a dual-motor all-wheel drive form at $49,999, the truck’s configurator has now revealed a single-motor rear-wheel drive base model starting at $41,520. The base model generates 300 hp and offers an estimated range of 260 miles from its Standard battery pack. An optional Long Range pack is available for an additional $3,980, providing over 350 miles of range. Additionally, a 500-hp dual-motor powertrain option is offered for $4,769, allowing for maximum payload and towing capacities of 1,600 pounds and 6,600 pounds, respectively.
Regardless of the powertrain chosen, the range estimates for the Telo MT1 remain the same. The larger Long Range pack is expected to have a 106-kwh capacity and will be able to recover 210 miles of range in 20 minutes when using DC fast-charging. Telo is currently accepting reservations for the MT1 at $152, which is the same length as the outgoing Mini Cooper SE two-door hatchback. However, the MT1 is designed to accommodate five adults and features a 60-inch bed, larger than that of the Rivian R1T. The truck also includes a midgate that allows for transporting long objects such as a 9-foot surfboard or a 4-by-8 sheet of plywood behind the front seats.
With 3,700 reservations already made, Telo Trucks is aiming for a press launch event in early 2025 for the MT1. However, the challenges of transitioning from concept to production have been seen with other companies like Canoo and Alpha Motors. While Telo has received positive reception for its compact electric pickup truck, the process of bringing it to market successfully involves various hurdles that need to be overcome. The company’s goal of providing an affordable yet efficient electric truck option may prove to be a competitive advantage in the growing electric vehicle market as more consumers seek environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional vehicles.
