The new Jeep Gladiator PHEV will likely share the same powertrain as the popular Wrangler 4xe model, which has been a hit in the United States. After discontinuing the diesel-powered version, the Gladiator pickup was only available with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine. However, Jeep is now expanding its electrified lineup, with plans to introduce the Gladiator 4xe PHEV in 2025. This move follows the success of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe, which were the best-selling PHEVs in the country last year.
Jeep is looking to capitalize on the success of its existing plug-in hybrid models by introducing a third 4xe-wearing vehicle, the Gladiator pickup. Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa recently confirmed this news on his LinkedIn account. While specific technical details about the upcoming Gladiator PHEV have not been disclosed, it is expected to feature the same powertrain as the Wrangler 4xe. This includes a 2.0-liter inline-four engine coupled with a starter generator and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed gearbox.
The powertrain of the Wrangler 4xe delivers significantly more power compared to the gas-powered V-6 engine, despite its smaller displacement. This setup generates 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, with an all-electric range of 22 miles thanks to its 17 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.
