Norwegian battery materials company Vianode has signed a strategic agreement with General Motors (GM) to supply high-performance anode graphite solutions for electric vehicle (EV) batteries and drive units. The agreement includes the development of large-scale manufacturing capacity and supply of synthetic anode graphite until 2033. This partnership is part of GM’s commitment to advancing its Ultium Cells battery cell manufacturing joint venture with LG Energy Solution by incorporating Vianode’s advanced materials.
Vianode will be supplying anode graphite from its upcoming large-scale plant in North America, expected to begin production in 2027. The agreement, which includes a minimum offtake commitment, is the culmination of a rigorous multi-year qualification process. With this partnership, Ultium Cells will have access to high-quality anode graphite for its EV batteries, potentially expanding to include other joint ventures as well.
