VinFast VF9 enters the U.S. market with deliveries of its flagship electric SUV
VinFast, the Vietnamese automaker, has officially started deliveries of its more upmarket electric SUV, the VF9, in the United States. The VF9 is a battery-powered three-row SUV that competes with other family-oriented EVs such as the Kia EV9 and Cadillac Vistiq. The VF9 comes in two versions – the Eco and Plus, with prices starting at $69,800 for the base Eco model and $73,800 for the slightly more upmarket Plus version. However, the initial units delivered to U.S. customers will be VF9 Plus models, offering more features at a lower price point.
Lowered prices and promotional lease offer for the VinFast VF9
VinFast has significantly reduced the prices of the VF9 from the original estimates. The entry-level version was initially priced at $83,000, and the Plus trim at $91,000, but were later lowered to $79,800 and $85,800 respectively. Moreover, the automaker is offering a promotional lease price of $529 per month for the first 100 VF9s delivered in the U.S., including a discount and a down payment. The Eco trim will be available later this year, providing customers with additional options to choose from.
VinFast VF9 features and specifications
Both the VF9 Eco and Plus models are equipped with a 123-kilowatt-hour battery pack that provides up to 330 miles of range in the Eco and 291 miles in the Plus. The Eco comes with 20-inch wheels, while the Plus features standard 21-inch wheels and additional premium amenities such as front fog lights, power driver and second-row seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Both trims have a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup delivering 402 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque, along with Plug & Charge and Auto Charge capabilities at compatible chargers.
VinFast VF9 in the competitive electric SUV market
The VinFast VF9 competes in the large electric three-row SUV segment alongside models like the Kia EV9 and Cadillac Vistiq. With dimensions of 201.5 inches long, 78.9 inches wide, and 66.7 inches tall, the VF9 offers competitive size and specifications. While details on federal tax credit eligibility are not yet confirmed, the VF9 is expected to qualify for the $7,500 tax credit when leasing, similar to other EV models. VinFast’s previous model, the VF8, faced criticism for ride quality and software issues, which have reportedly been addressed in the VF9.
Comparison with Kia EV9 and Cadillac Vistiq in terms of pricing
In terms of pricing, the Kia EV9 is the most affordable option among the three competing models, starting at $56,395 for the base version with rear-wheel drive and 230 miles of range. The Cadillac Vistiq, priced from $78,790, offers dual-motor all-wheel drive and an estimated range of 300 miles. With its competitive pricing, range, and features, the VinFast VF9 aims to make a mark in the electric SUV market and provide customers with a compelling option in the growing EV segment.
