Toyota Unveils Major Upgrades to bZ4X and Lexus RZ Crossovers
Toyota recently announced major upgrades to its bZ4X and Lexus RZ crossovers, as well as the introduction of the new C-HR+. These upgrades go beyond the surface level and include massive hardware improvements, larger batteries, upgraded motors, and smarter technology. Bigger, More Energy Dense Batteries
The upgraded bZ4X in Europe will now be equipped with different battery options, including a smaller 57.7 kWh unit and a larger 73.1 kWh unit. These batteries are more energy-dense and have an increased number of cells, providing improved performance and range. The European version of the bZ4X is estimated to offer up to 356 miles of range on the WLTP cycle, with similar improvements expected in the U.S. market, bridging the gap between Toyota’s EV offerings and competitors.
Improved Charging Performance

While the max DC fast-charging rate remains the same at 150 kilowatts, the charging curve has been flattened to offer more consistent speeds at a higher rate. This means that owners will spend less time at public fast-charging stations, as the charging time has been halved. Level 2 charging has also been enhanced, with peak AC charging doubled from 11 kW to 22 kW.
Battery Preconditioning, Route Planning, Upgraded "eAxles"
Toyota has integrated battery preconditioning as a standard feature in its EVs, improving charging speeds and overall battery performance. Owners can activate battery preconditioning manually or automatically with route planning, a new feature for Toyota BEVs that simplifies the process of planning long journeys and optimizing charging stops along the way. The upgraded electric motors with silicon carbide inverters result in more powerful and efficient performance, with the bZ4X boasting a maximum output of 343 hp.
