AZULIK Mobility has unveiled the first prototype of its concept doorless electric car, EK. This innovative vehicle has an open setting and no doors, with a fiberglass body that draws inspiration from organic architecture. The design of the car, created by Roth Fablab under Roth Architecture, is part of AZULIK Real Estate’s new development, AZULIK Basin. The launch party for the electric car took place on May 20th, 2024. The interior of the EK can accommodate three people, with a unique seating arrangement and a wooden steering wheel that follows the organic design concept.
Inside the EK, passengers will find a tabletop upholstered in waterproof nautical fabric, as well as 3D printed button panels machined from tropical zapote wood. The car features a reverse camera display, digital tachometer, and a central console with a double cup holder, wireless phone charger, and ambient humidifier. Despite its futuristic appearance, the EK is designed for low-speed cruising, similar to a golf cart. It has a 2,200W engine, a charging time of eight to ten hours, a maximum speed of 40 km/hr, and a range of up to 100 kilometers on a single charge.
The doorless electric car EK was designed by AZULIK Mobility and manufactured by Roth Fablab in Mexico. The manufacturing process involved a blend of digital, computational, and constructive techniques, as well as collaboration with local artisans and suppliers to ensure locally sourced materials. The fiberglass body with polyurethane foam casting was painted with automotive paint, while various parts were machined and carved from zapote wood. Thermoformed acrylic was used for the windshield and medallion, and ceramic emblems were handmade. As of now, only one prototype of the EK has been produced.
