Tesla has introduced a new paint option for its Model S sedan and Model X SUV called Lunar Silver, available for an additional $2,500. Described as a clean silver with a metallic effect and subtle blue tint, this new color option offers a shinier appearance compared to the discontinued Metallic Silver option for the Model 3.
Images of the Model S and Model X in Lunar Silver show that the new paint may not be as deep as Quicksilver, which is available in Giga Berlin and Giga Shanghai-made Model Y units. However, Quicksilver is expected to make its way to Giga Texas as well, as spotted on inventory Model Y units from the facility. After many years, silver is making a comeback across Tesla’s lineup.
The difference in shade between Lunar Silver and Quicksilver may be due to the capabilities of the Fremont Factory’s paint shop. Quicksilver, introduced by Tesla alongside Midnight Cherry Red, is made possible by Giga Berlin’s advanced paint shop, which allows for up to 13 layers for depth and dimension. Despite the variation in shade, Lunar Silver is more affordable at $2,500 compared to Quicksilver which costs €2,600 ($2,800).
The reintroduction of silver across Tesla’s lineup, including Quicksilver for the Model Y, the Cybertruck’s steel finish, and now Lunar Silver for the Model S and Model X, seems to be well-received by the electric vehicle community. Fans are appreciating the return of this classic color option to Tesla’s vehicles and are eager for the reengineered Tesla Model 3 Performance to also receive the Lunar Silver option.
With the success of the new Lunar Silver paint option and the continued popularity of silver across Tesla’s lineup, there is speculation about the possibility of expanding this paint option to other Tesla models in the future. The electric vehicle community is excited about the return of silver to the lineup and looks forward to seeing more customization options available for Tesla vehicles in the future.
